Fallout 3: Point Lookout (PC, Action RPG) is the fourth downloadable expansion for the Fallout 3 series. The adventure begins with notice of a ferry boat that will take you to Point Lookout and a woman looking for her lost daughter, Nadine. This main quest line quickly devolves into a series of trippy quests and conversations with things that are barely human. The stories and characters here are filled with that trademark Fallout dark humor, elevating these quests to a level that rivals the main game.

IGN gave it an 8.5 (‘Great’) rating: “Point Lookout is one of the better Fallout 3 expansions and feels well worth the $10 price tag. There’s a brand new area with over a half dozen trippy and exciting missions to find and work through. Plus, there are inbred hillbillies. If you’re still looking for more Fallout 3, definitely give Point Lookout a try.” [IGN | Fallout 3: Point Lookout Review]

Grand Ages: Rome Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/700

Grand Ages: Rome (PC, Strategy) is a game where you raise massive armies and embark on epic campaigns to expand the Empire and take control of the known world. Engage in grand-scale city building and create magnificent cities with creativity and control like never before. Intuitive controls make it easy to launch bone-crushing combat missions and manage every aspect of your thriving civilization. GameZone gave it a 6.7 rating: “Grand Ages: Rome is a decent game that doesn’t try very hard to break out of the city-building mold. Instead it fits comfortably in the age old staples of the genre. The only good thing about this is the developers laid a good foundation for them to work with on the inevitable sequel, which will hopefully come up with something new and really make this game break out.” [GameZone | Grand Ages: Rome]

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/633

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (PC, First-Person Shooter) opens with Paxton Fettel taking command of a battalion of Replica Soldiers and storming the Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) headquarters. Surveillance footage shows Fettel in the act of cannibalizing one of his victims. You, the player, are introduced as the new "Point Man" for the First Encounter Assault Recon team, a secret government organization that specializes in dealing with paranormal threats. The team coordinator, Rowdy Betters, introduces you to teammates Spen Jankowski and Jin Sun-Kwon. The team is ordered to eliminate Fettel. As a failsafe measure, ATC implanted all bioengineered soldiers with a honing device, so the team is able to track Fettel’s movements with the Hannibal-3 spy satellite.

GamePro gave it 4 out of 5 stars: “While it wasn’t the best shooter ever created — that honor belongs to the original Half-Life — the original F.E.A.R. was a terrific FPS, full of intense action, a sweet slo-mo gimmick and the scariest little girl I’ve ever encountered whose last name wasn’t Olsen. Now, the spine tingling sequel, Project Origin is here to continue the story of the psychic and psychotic Alma with damn good results.” [GamePro | F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin]

GameSpot gave it a 7.0 (‘Good’) rating: “You’ll get the occasional heebie-jeebies from F.E.A.R. 2, but the magic of the first game hasn’t been re-created here. It’s true that some of the changes in the new game seem like they were intended to address criticism of the first F.E.A.R.: tedious and claustrophobic environments, lack of enemy variety, and so on. Sadly, though these changes were made, the resulting sequel, while fun and well-crafted, seems to have lost sight of the strengths that made its predecessor so unique. Nevertheless, playing F.E.A.R. 2 is a worthwhile way to pass the time while we wait for the inevitable next installment.” [GameSpot | F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin]

IGN.com gave it an 8.3 (‘Impressive’) rating: “With F.E.A.R. 2, Monolith has crafted a solid follow-up to F.E.A.R. It’s a good shooter, bordering on great at times, but it’s not as groundbreaking as its predecessor. Still, it’s definitely faithful to the idea of F.E.A.R., which is mainly trying to get under your skin using a combination of tried-and-true horror elements, not the least of which is a creepy little girl.” [IGN, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin]

Those already familiar with the first game will probably also enjoy F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. If you didn’t play the first one, though, maybe you should start from there. IceRocket: F.E.A.R. 2 project origin

Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/587

Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy (PC, Action) is a single and multiplayer game where players strive to become the most infamous pirate captain of all time and etch their name in The Hall of Infamy.

GameZone gave it a 7.0 rating: “Nothing deep here but even though the game has very arcade-like roots, taken as a package it works. The scored missions give a reason to try to achieve a quick and efficient solution. This may not be a game that you will sit down and spend hours with, but in increments you should walk away with a smile on your face. ” [GameZone | Buccaneer: The Pursuit of Infamy]

The strong points of the game is its nice graphics, easy to use interface, and good background sounds. IceRocket: buccaneer pursuit of infamy

Mirror’s Edge Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/563

Mirror’s Edge (PC, Action / Adventure) delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing landscape. Engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases, with a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world, a world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous.

IGN.com rated Mirror’s Edge with an 8.5 (‘Great’): “There’s a distinctive flow and rhythm to DICE’s Mirror’s Edge, letting you bound across obstacle courses with seemingly inhuman strength and agility. Though the disarm system isn’t as immediately accessible as the platform-hopping mechanics, with some practice you’ll eventually find you can slide, dash and smash for long, continuous stretches, a thrill reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog’s early days. While its elegant controls, visuals and audio weave a dreamlike tapestry that its animated cut-scenes do their best to eat away at, the whole is an experience you’d be remiss to let fly by if you missed it on consoles.” [IGN | Mirror’s Edge Review]

The best qualities of Mirror’s Edge are its Sound and Gameplay. This is a good game Action/Adventure game with a First-Person perspective. IceRocket: mirror’s edge, first person action adventure

Featuring breathtaking graphics and a vast, beautiful and dangerous game world to explore, EverQuest II sets the standard for graphical realism as players are immersed in the game’s exciting locales and mysterious lands. “New achievement trees, new armor, new group zones – sure, they are mostly applicable for the veteran players, but TSO brings in a free mount for all players and that is very nice. With the TSO expansion, EverQuest II continues to be one of the top MMOs on the market and The Shadow Odyssey only deepens the experience.” [GameZone | EverQuest II The Shadow Odyssey]

Dead Space (PC, Action) is set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. Players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship’s crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.

GameZone gave it an 8.9 rating: “An excellent new addition to the splinter group of action games centered around horror. I suspect they will make a sequel and I suspect it too will spawn a franchise. Dead Space gets it right when it comes to the scares.” [GameZone | Dead Space]

If you are looking for a nice Action game with great sound, medium to hard difficulty, and nice concept, Dead Space is good one to get. IceRocket: dead space

A Vampyre Story Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/379

A Vampyre Story (PC, Adventure) is a frightful and fantastical point-and-click adventure game. Combining 3D animation and 2D designs, the game follows the opera starlett, Mona, a woman kidnapped by Baron Shrowdy Von Kiefer and slowly becoming a creature of the night after coming under the vampire’s spell. As she seeks to venture away from his gothic island-set castle, she’ll have to learn to control her vampyric powers of turning into a bat, hypnotizing people, turning into vapor, and drinking blood from humans. Her friendly bat acquaintance, Froderick, will join her on her quest.

IGN gave it a 7.6 (“Good”) rating: “… but to be honest, it’s one of the more interesting adventure games around. Most important is how much cheesy writing you are willing to put up with. The cast is quirky and the scenarios are quirky; forgive me for still not being over the constipated raven. My personal cup of game A Vampyre Story is not, but you may enjoy a sip if only to experience its unique, Halloweeny flavor.” [IGN | A Vampyre Story]

Left 4 Dead Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/384

Left 4 Dead (PC, Action) is a multiplayer focused shooter game from Valve. Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D offers four expansive "movie campaigns" that challenge you and your fellow survivors to battle thousands of swarming zombies as you travel across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests. In addition to the movie campaigns, Left 4 Dead features a Versus mode that allows you to play as the Boss Zombies.

FiringSquad gave it its Editor’s Choice award: “Left 4 Dead is just another game in Valve’s portfolio that goes to show they know what fun is, and what people want to play. By taking many of our cultural references to zombies and allowing players to be part of the horde, Valve has given us a game that is unlike any other we have seen. Fast paced action and scream inducing frights work to provide an innovative and exciting game that has a huge replay factor thanks to the AI Director’s ability to completely randomize each play through.” [FiringSquad | Left 4 Dead]

GameZone gave it an 8.9 rating: “Left 4 Dead is a great multiplayer shooter with many elements that you won’t find in any other shooter this year. The co-op experience is unrivaled and the dynamic AI is an excellent design choice. While more maps would’ve been nice, Left 4 Dead is still a worthy purchase for any fan of multiplayer shooters.” [GameZone | Left 4 Dead]

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/385

Storm of Zehir Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir (PC, RPG) is the latest expansion of Neverwinter Nights series. About the Game: In the aftermath of the defeat of the King of Shadows, the Sword Coast is in the midst of an uneasy economic recovery. Trade syndicates have sprung up to exploit the post-war confusion for their own ends and the players’ party will wade into this uncertain environment. In order to increase their own fortunes, they can either ally with a syndicate to create a trade empire, or cut their own path through Faerun by preying upon caravans and selling the goods on the black market. As they attempt to extend their influence, players will become aware of a new faction working behind the scenes: the evil, shape-shifting, serpentine Yuan-Ti. GameSpot gave it a 6.0 (‘Fair’) rating: “Storm of Zehir tries to be the square peg in Neverwinter Nights 2’s round hole, with predictably lackluster results. … Storm of Zehir isn’t a terrible addition to the D&D gaming canon, although it is a lot less refined than you might expect. You have to suspect that this is the result of straying too far from the original Neverwinter Nights 2 formula, and ultimately this expansion pack isn’t as enjoyable.” [GameSpot | Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir] IGN gave it an 8.3 (‘Impressive’) rating: “Fans of D&D and single-player role-playing games should definitely check out Storm of Zehir. Yes, there’s a shortage of single-player D&D games in this age of MMOs that we live in, but Obsidian has still crafted an involving and engaging adventure. It’s also nice to see the company take risks, presenting new forms of gameplay and evolving its series even further. With its emphasis on party, this feels like an homage to the old school D&D games of the past.” [IGN | Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir] If you are an RPG and Neverwinter Nights fan, Storm of Zehir is quite a mixed bag. It is a nice RPG game, but might not be the NN2 expansion you’d expect. IceRocket: neverwinter nights 2, storm of zehir, pc game rpg

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (PC, Role-Playing Game) is the latest expansion of World of Warcraft, one of the most popular MMO titles released. IGN gave it a 9.0 (“Outstanding”) rating: “Reviewing a World of Warcraft expansion is never an easy or quick task to embark on. Seeing everything it has to offer takes time and effort, so much so we’ll be spending the next week or so exploring Northrend before offering up our final opinion.” [IGN | WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Review Diary Part One]

GameZone gave the game a 9.5 rating: “World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King provides the majority of content to upper-end players who’ve hit the previous level cap of 70 and are looking for a great new class to try out or an awesome new continent to explore. If you’re just starting out and haven’t hit on the game’s higher level features, then chances are you won’t be able to get to the real meat of the expansion until you’ve done some leveling. Still, with the great new content, there’s really no reason for any WoW fan to not pick up this expansion.” [GameZone | World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King]

Quantum of Solace Reviewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/227

Quantum of Solace (PC, Action) is a game that blends intense first-person action with a unique third-person cover combat system that allows players to truly feel what it is like to be the ultimate secret agent as they use their stealth, precision shooting and lethal combat skills to progress through missions.

IGN.com gave Quantum of Solace a 7.2 rating (“Decent”): “Quantum of Solace isn’t the game that it should have been. It’s not bad by any means, but what brings it out of the pits of despair is the foundation of a much better game that we all know and love. The action is less compelling and the world that’s built around Bond doesn’t do much to enhance the fun factor. All of the additions do little to push the game ahead of other first-person shooters and instead take you out of the world of being Bond.” [IGN | Quantum of Solace Review]

“We feel that Far Cry 2 is a pretty kickass game. Though we haven’t had the time to play it to its full extent, we loved the graphics and gameplay itself. Pretty much any ’somewhat’ modern PC will allow you to play the game, even with high image quality settings enabled. Though both ATI’s hotfix drivers and NVIDIA’s Beta driver are early drivers to test the game with, we just have to say .. on the GeForce cards (except GX2) everything ran butter-smooth. With the ATI hotfix drivers we noticed some lag here and there. Once that issue has been fixed we wouldn’t be surprised to see the ATI scores rise a little bit. But NVIDIA definitely has a better driver at this time.” [guru3D.com | Far Cry 2 PC VGA Graphics performance review]
