Protect Your Nintendo DSi http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/539

If you’ve been a good boy or girl this year you may have been lucky enough to get a Nintendo DSi for Christmas. This newest kid on the block boasts a slimmer exterior, larger screen and fantastic audio and visual applications packaged into one of Nintendo’s smartest looking devices to date

Proporta anticipate that if you are lucky enough to own this enviable device you’ll want to keep it looking as dapper as the day you bought it. Proporta have therefore designed a Leather Style Protective Case which includes their ultra-special ‘Screen Saver System,’ which has been specifically designed to protect your Nintendo DSi against crushing and impact shocks or sudden bouts of game-related frustration. Proporta also recommend the Advanced Screen Protector (Nintendo DSi), because when it comes to devices with dual screens you really can’t afford to take any chances with either screen (without one or the other you’d be lost). Proporta has managed to improve the thickness of the high-clarity protector, without impairing screen brightness or quality. Clever Proporta. P.S. If you’re looking for a handy way to carry your Nintendo DSI, cables and games the Proporta Gadget Bag offers full protection (due to its padded lining) and will also keep your DSi within easy access at all times. Sony PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 was recently released. Firmware 5.00 M33 Changes:

4.01 to 5.00
Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reset to 222 again.

Sony PSP-3000 Previewed http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/104

The upcoming Sony PSP-3000 (dubbed as PSP Brite) has been previewed by the folks at Eurogamer.

“… The PSP-3000 - another unofficial name - looked identical to the Slim & Lite, and Reeves’ declaration that the screen was much better and that it now had a microphone built in didn’t exactly cradle our nethers the way a built-in hard drive or Keeley Hawes might have done. In fact, we wondered what Sony was thinking. … As a simple hardware revision, though, it’s a sensible one that gives consumers a better option at the same price point (admittedly instead of a price drop), and will encourage developers to consider voice communication in their online games. We probably wouldn’t pay for one, but having transplanted our Lumines habit to the new hardware, we won’t be going back, and the PSP is stronger for the change.” [Eurogamer | PSP-3000]

Key differences of PSP-2000 and PSP-3000:

built-in microphone
enhanced screen

If you already have a PSP-2000, maybe the PSP-3000 is not much of an upgrade, unless you are dying to have that microphone and “more enhanced” display. Technorati: sony, psp, portable, gaming, console, 3000, brite Tags: console gaming

Best Bang Per Buck Graphics Cards for October 2008 http://cedled.site40.net/items/view/426

Tom's Hardware recently released their October 2008 choice picks for gaming video cards.

      Recommended PCI-E cards:

Radeon HD 3650 GDDR3 (US$35) Radeon HD 4670 GDDR3 ($85) GeForce 9600 GSO (aka GeForce 8800 GS) ($85) Radeon HD 3870 ($100) GeForce 9600 GT ($100) GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (aka GeForce 9800 GT 512MB) ($120) Radeon HD 4850 ($170) Radeon HD 4870 ($260) GeForce GTX 260 ($260) GeForce 9800 GX2 ($260) 2x Radeon HD 4850 in CrossFire Configuration ($340) Radeon HD 4870 X2 ($550)

If you are building a new system, and will just use it for some very light gaming on the side, the Radeon HD 3650 GDDR3 would probably be a good-enough discreet graphics solution. Other than that, the 8800 GT 512MB, 9800 GT 512MB, and HD 4850 seem to be the "middle-ground" choice cards.

      Recommended AGP cards:

Radeon HD 3650 (under $US100) Radeon HD 2600 XT ($100) Radeon HD 3850 512MB ($135)

[Source: Tom's Hardware | The Best Graphics Cards for the Money: October 2008] It's interesting to note that an AGP HD 3650 card would cost almost 3 times a PCI-E card with the same GPU. Unless you need to replace a broken AGP card, maybe that $100 is best kept for your next system build.
